The Citizenship class assists adults who are preparing to become United States citizens.
Class requirements include:
Intermediate level skills in English. Students will need to take a placement test and score in the Intermediate level in order to enroll in the class.
Permanent residency for 5 years (3 years of spouse of U.S Citizen) is required to enroll in the class.
English Classes
English classes are currently full. We will begin testing new students in July 2024. The testing sessions will open July 8 to register for a placement tests on July 18, 19, 25, 26.

Santa Clara Adult Education offers a variety of classes to meet your needs. We have free English classes for adults, Levels 1- 5. These English classes are for students who want to go to college, get a job, or be active in their communities. Classes provide practice in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
We also have free classes offered through a partnership with local community colleges. Please take a look at all of the classes listed below, and decide what’s right for you!
When are Level 1-5 classes offered?
- 2-4 mornings per week 9:00 am – 11:30 am
- 2-3 evenings per week, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
How do I sign up for Level 1-5 classes?
New students and students who have left our school for more than 6 months must register to take a placement test. Please call us at (408) 423-3500 to register for a placement test. Space is limited.
